The same propensity that makes people attracted to artists, politicians, billionaires, etc., makes them attracted to spiritual leaders who show power, fame, wealth, knowledge, etc. That's a trap.

Great article , thanks for pointing this out , I feel like most of us reach to this point in KC whereby we are confronted with a thousand different ideas and have great difficulty in reconciling them. It ends up becoming quite burdensome. I read somewhere that the step is jnana then vijana , and for jnana we need to be submissive and attentive to SP books , its a long process but vijana is even higher , unfortunately most people give up at the first stages saying that Prabhupad books contain "ABC"s , then what to speak of realization of knowledge etc. It also makes me ponder on how the scriptures are not just material mundane knowledege but must be seen from the eyes of a pure devotee , most "scholars" nowadays write commentaries on scriptures without even understanding the purpose behind them , Krsna. Yes, our acharyas wrote extensively about this propensity for contamination of jñāna in our devotional service. In the material sphere, we always think we know everything, but the material intelligence can't find its way out of the material world. Spiritual practice starts by admitting we don't know. This leads to accepting a self-realized spiritual master and joining the parampara. Many, unfortunately, never do this step. Others accept some kind of spiritual master, but not a self-realized one. Others get entangled in different grades of material Vedic knowledge.
