The Fourth Pāda
Most of this 4th pāda or section of the Govinda-bhāṣya is dedicated to offering arguments refuting the Sānkhya philosophy propounded by the Atheistic Kapila. More arguments will be presented in the next pāda, at the beginning of the second adhyāya (chapter), which we cover in the second book of the series.
Śrīla Baladeva Vidyābhūṣaṇa starts his commentary with a prayer:
tamaḥ sankhya-ghanodīrṇa-vidīrṇam yasya go-gaṇaiḥ
tam samvid-bhūṣaṇam kṛṣṇa-pūṣaṇam samupāsmahe
“Let us offer our respectful obeisances to Lord Kṛṣṇa, who is like the sun. He is decorated with all transcendental knowledge, and His multitude of transcendental rays dispels the deep darkness of the atheistic Sānkhya philosophy.”
