Chapter 01: The Sankhya Philosophy of Lord Kapila
The Sankhya philosophy taught by Lord Kapila explains the Lord, prakṛti, the jivas, their attachment to matter, and how this attachment can be counteracted. The Lord is the original enjoyer, but in conditioned life, we become false enjoyers of this material world. This propensity to enjoy material nature is the cause of our miseries, and devotional service is the process of destroying these miseries and reconnecting ourselves with our original sat-cit-ananda nature. Becoming situated in the spiritual platform means becoming free from the material conceptions of "I" and "mine". The mind must have some engagement, therefore the process for purifying the mind is engaging it in Krsna consciousness. As the mind becomes purified, there is no more material desire and greed. When the thoughts of the mind become absorbed in the service of the Lord, the body and senses automatically follow, and we become busy in devotional service, which gradually restores our original spiritual consciousness. Attachment to the material is the cause of our material existence, but the same attachment when applied to self-realized devotees opens the doors of liberation.
